Final leg of Sabrina's adventures took us through San Pedro and over to the finale, Antofagasta, Chile. First we had to manage the border crossing. This time it was quicker, because we were returning Chile bikes to Chile. Four stamps later, we were crossing the border! Northern Chile is a stark contrast to Southern Peru.
Southern Peru is quite colourful and green. Northern Chile, is well. Desert.
San Pedro de Atacama is the gateway to everything in the desert of Chile. It's also the gateway to Bolivia and the Salar Unys (that will be another adventure). It is near to the world's largest copper mine. It is the gateway to the Valley of moon. It is the gateway to the Geisers. Basically, it is Northern Chile's adventure capital.
Some pictures of our time include Jaroslav trying to get me pumped up for the next stretch of desert riding.
Sunset at the valley of the moon
Sunrise at the geisers
And through the salt lakes towards Antofagasta...
Returning Sabrina to her to rightful owners, Moto Aventura was pretty tough. Primarily because I couldn't fathom the idea of bus travel for the next few weeks (hold that thought a while). At other times, it was tough because I wasn't going to have my new friends to hang out with - to learn from on a daily basis, to be pushed to be a better rider. And, ok, there would be no more daily doses of BMW moto porn (I did however get to ride a 30th anniversary of GS - 2010 F800GS - when I was helping to wash the bikes for the next group - woot!)!
The tour was conducted by Edelweiss bike tours, and I'd have to say, both the bikes from Moto Aventura and their resident mechanics, added with our tour guide Jens from Edelweiss is the perfect option if you want the adventure without the hassle of organising everything yourself, and you want to take a holiday, and ride beautiful roads.
I felt it was only an Adiu and not an Adios to our new friends. And Sabrina, well tomorrow, she gets a new friend to take through Peru and Chile. To me, she'll always be the Silver Palmonio's cousin, and have a fond space in my heart.
