Today The Silver Palomino and I introduced ourselves to Wade, an architect working in the historical region of Sydney: The Rocks.
For a while now, I must confess, we've had a bit of a crush on the Palomino's big brother, the blue-grey F1200GS that parks with us under the Sydney Harbour Bridge . Wade is from Ireland, and has brought his purring F1200GS with him. He used to ride a F650GS like the Palomino too. He loved her and remembered her fondly tonight.
Three years ago, he traded her in for his F1200GS. Wade believes he's better balanced than the Palomino, and I confessed my admiration of his beauty - always well cleaned and in immaculate, loving condition. Even only last week, I had lined myself up to see if I was big enough to ride and could picture us riding into the sunset on some romantic adventure together. Wade laughed, but seemed happy that somebody respected his steed as much as he did.
I must admit, it never ceases to amaze me, and I love how us BMW riders beem when we are complimented on our bikes (perhaps why we're called Beemers?!). Our faces light up, suddenly becoming alive after a grueling, mind-numbing day in front of a computer, racing from meeting to meeting and I suppose, for Wade, a drawing board: all the pressures of modern day work that somehow, our parents never had to worry about.
When we speak of our Beemers, all of those pressures; the draining energy rushes away,... All that remains is you, your bike, and the open road. The fond memories. The dreams of the roads untravelled. The dreams of revisiting the roads already travelled.

Bliss.
Smiles.And lots of them!
Wade and I spoke of my nearing trip through Peru and Chile, and he recommended that I explore the personal adventures of readers of the South African BMW Motorrad website. Check it out here!
From an evening of reading and dreaming and invigorating inspiration - I concur with the recommendation! Well met Wade - see you on the open road!
