Those who know me well, know I'm a self-confessed country girl, and I'm always excited when I see a bit of the bush coming to the city.
But hang on a minute - I really got to ask - since when has RM Williams, "The Bush Outfitter" started up a cafe of their own and thought it a great idea to whack it in a huge Westfield and said they're proud to open what they call an "outback High Street cafe"?
Like, what?!? Have RM Williams lost their mind, and hired somebody from the UK to do their copywrite these days and employed city folk to give them ideas of what they think being a country Australian in the city really is? For starters, "High Street" is an United Kingdom phrase, not a blimey Australian phrase. And there's no way you'll find a cafe looking like the below or having their menu in the outback! Let alone on their main drag!
Then, to whack their new "tea house" (and yes, they can't make up their mind if it is a tea house or cafe) in Westfield Chatswood of all places, is adding more fuel to the fire. Apparently they even have one of these fangled tea house / cafes in Geelong!
For me, I believe an RM Williams cafe is a brilliant idea had it been executed properly. This is a city cafe pretending to be a country cafe, and that just don't sit with a girl like me.
RM Williams, if you really wanted to bring the country to the city in cafe style - why not find yourself a quirky old milk bar style terrace with a huge corrugated iron awning and put some RM Williams old skool paraphernalia along the walls and really do it right? This city doesn't need another Gloria Jeans from RM Williams. It needs a real country cafe from the real RM WIlliams!
