Bicycle Garage

Finally had coffee with the boys from the Bicycle Garage in Lilyfield . Situated on the sunny corner of Lilyfield road and Mary Street, this family run business is like hanging out in the local milk bar, but groovier.

The boys came up with a concept that all cyclists dream about - a perfect cafe with bicycle porn all around, and opened shop 12 months ago. It's a place where you can go, grab a coffee, and hang out with other cyclists. Drool over bicycles and dream to upgrade to something a little more upmarket, or forget for a while that you have to get back home so instead have a read of the newspaper after a long ride. It's also the local bicycle shop where you can pick up a spare tube, or even get your bicycle serviced at a reasonable price.

In short: bicyclist heaven!

The cafe design takes you to  the south of France - you can almost feel le tour de France whizzing by and have to pinch yourself to remind you that in fact, you're in Sydney's inner west. The outside seating is perfect for watching the world go by, intermittently drooling over the bicycles hanging overhead. Or if you prefer, sitting on the long communal table inside where the pleasurable sound of grinding coffee beans, the whizzing of hot milk and the chirpy locals coming in and out making this corner shop the buzz of Lilyfield.
